De prijs\u00a0beloont innovaties die bijdragen aan hogere recyclingpercentages voor papier en karton in Europa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"zlAe0W_TextBase zlAe0W_Text\" data-w-component=\"text\">Mondi won de award met zijn <span class=\"zlAe0W_TextBase zlAe0W_Text\" data-w-component=\"text\" data-w-weight=\"semibold\" data-w-inline=\"\" data-w-whitespace=\"linebreaks\">Functional Barrier Papers<\/span>: papierverpakkingen met barri\u00e8re-eigenschappen tegen bijvoorbeeld vocht, vet en zuurstof die toch goed recyclebaar blijven in bestaande papierstromen. De verpakkingen zijn ontwikkeld volgens het principe <span class=\"zlAe0W_TextBase zlAe0W_Text\" data-w-component=\"text\" data-w-weight=\"semibold\" data-w-inline=\"\" data-w-whitespace=\"linebreaks\">\u2018design for recycling\u2019.\u00a0<\/span>Voor de golfkartonsector is dat een duidelijke ontwikkeling. Ook golfkartonnen verpakkingen worden steeds vaker ontworpen met recycling al in de ontwerpfase als uitgangspunt. Dat sluit aan bij de strengere eisen uit de Europese Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), die nadruk legt op materiaalkeuze, recyclebaarheid en circulariteit. D<span class=\"zlAe0W_TextBase zlAe0W_Text\" data-w-component=\"text\" data-w-weight=\"semibold\" data-w-inline=\"\" data-w-whitespace=\"linebreaks\">esign for recycling biedt k<\/span>ansen voor golfkarton. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan het vervangen van moeilijk recyclebare kunststoffen: de vraag naar papier- en kartongebaseerde alternatieven voor meerlaagse kunststofverpakkingen groeit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"zlAe0W_TextBase zlAe0W_Text\" data-w-component=\"text\">Volgens de European Paper Recycling Council (EPRC) ligt de Europese papierketen op koers voor een recyclingpercentage van 76 procent in 2030. Papier- en kartonverpakkingen behalen nu al een recyclingpercentage van 87 procent. In Nederland ligt dat percentage hoger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"zlAe0W_TextBase zlAe0W_Text\" data-w-component=\"text\">De onderscheiding voor Mondi onderstreept dus bredere trend in de sector: verpakkingen moeten niet alleen functioneel en beschermend zijn, maar vooral ontworpen worden voor maximale circulariteit.
